Walter Pyramid

Located on the Long Beach State University campus in Long Beach, California, is the 4,000-seat indoor multi-purpose arena known as The Walter Pyramid. It was previously The Long Beach Pyramid.

According to estimates, the Walter Pyramid is the largest space-frame building in the Americas. With a men's basketball game between Long Beach State and the Detroit Titans on November 30, 1994, the Walter Pyramid debuted to the public and was shown live on ESPN. With 5,021 fans in attendance, Long Beach came out on top with a 71-64 victory.

The city's skyline will never be the same, thanks to the building's striking cobalt blue facade. Its 18-story height makes it visible from far away since it towers above the north campus. It has had an instantaneous, positive influence on our fan base, scholarship fundraising, recruiting, and income production, and it has elevated the reputation of Long Beach State's athletic teams to new heights. About 190,000 people a year enter the Walter Pyramid.

Eighteen floors tall, the Walter Pyramid dominates the Long Beach skyline with its uniform facade of dark blue corrugated metal sheets. A new floor design was introduced in 2012 at Long Beach State, emphasizing the word "Beach" and the university's proximity to the Pacific Ocean. The new floor, which features palm trees and sand dunes in Old Gold, is a timeless fusion of ancient and modern design.

The Walter Pyramid was designed by architect Don Gibbs and constructed by the Nielson Construction Company. Roughly $22 million was spent on the construction of the Walter Pyramid. A real pyramid, Walter Pyramid, has a circumference of 345 feet (105 m) on each side.

Just three other American structures, the Summum Pyramid in Salt Lake City, Nevada's Luxor in Las Vegas, and Memphis, Tennessee's Pyramid Arena, are the only others of their kind in the country.

At the moment, the Walter Pyramid is home to the Long Beach State Beach men's and women's basketball teams and the men's and women's volleyball teams. The Beach is the moniker for all Long Beach State University sports teams that play their home games in the Walter Pyramid.

While the American Basketball League still existed, the Long Beach Stingrays played their home games at the Walter Pyramid in 1997 and 1998. The Mundials, or World Championships, of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, are held annually at the Walter Pyramid.

On March 25, 2018, New Japan Pro-Wrestling held a show called Strong Style Evolved, and tickets sold out in minutes. The Walter Pyramid hosted a semi-final game of the 2019 WNBA Playoffs for the Los Angeles Sparks.
