Bluff Park
Bluff Park is a quaint community located in Long Beach, California. It is known for its high standard of living. Much of Long Beach's coastline is Bluff, and along one section of this is the neighborhood's namesake, the narrow Bluff Park. With its stunning oceanfront location and relaxing breezes, this park is among the best in Long Beach. This park is commonly frequented by joggers, stroller users, and dog walkers.
South of Ocean Boulevard, west of Junipero Avenue, north of a crooked line connecting 2nd Street and Broadway, and east of Loma Avenue lies the Bluff Park Historic District, established in 1982. The neighborhood of Belmont Heights is located to the east of Bluff Park, the neighborhood of Bluff Heights is located to the north of Bluff Park, and the neighborhood of Alamitos Beach is located to the west of Bluff Park.
In Bluff Park, you'll find the Long Beach Museum of Art and numerous historic residences that have been lovingly preserved over the years. Also, a former Roman Catholic convent has been converted into a Buddhist monastery.
In 1919, the City acquired the 11.16-acre park plot from the Alamitos Land Co. The westernmost 0.30-acre tract of land is located south of Ocean Boulevard between the 19th and 20th. This amazing place was purchased from the Federal Government by the City of Los Angeles in 1950. The property was home to the historic Elizabeth Milbank Anderson mansion, which served as a club for Chief Petty Officers in the Navy during World War II. In 1954, it underwent renovations to become the Long Beach Museum of Art home.
Greene & Greene, Spanish Revival, American Craftsman, Prairie Style, American Colonial Revival, Tudor, and Mediterranean architecture from the early 1900s can all be found in the historic area.
The original Lone Sailor statue, sculpted by Stanley Bleifeld and installed on the granite plaza that serves as the amphitheater of the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C., has a replica in Long Beach.
Although the artist has sculpted other Lone Sailor memorials across the United States, the one that is located in Bluff Park Long Beach is the only one that looks out over the water. Only one of these hotels actually has a view of the San Francisco Bay; the rest are all located further inland.
