Balboa Park

Balboa Park is a beautiful botanic paradise and an amazing cultural center right in the heart of San Diego. It is just a few minutes from downtown. It is a cultural haven that is popular for having something for everyone. Being one of the most iconic urban parks of North America, Balboa Park is a must-see. No matter if you are a fan of nature, art, or science, the spot is rich enough. 

Balboa Park has a plethora of beautiful gardens, several museums, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Some of the famous gardens include Alcazar Garden, Australian Garden, Botanical Building, California Native Plant Garden, Lily Pond, Palm Canyon, Trees for Health Garden, and Veterans Memorial Garden. Among 17 museums, George W. Marston House, San Diego Model Railroad Museum, Mingei International Museum, and San Diego Natural History Museum are the top-rated ones. 

Balboa Park has a rich history that can easily be seen in its amazing architecture,  installations, exhibits, and cultural events. Events like marathons, races, outdoor concerts,  free weekly concerts, free organ concerts, fairs, championships, and a lot more take place throughout the year. 

In 2016, the  WikiConference North America took place in the park. It also hosted a wonderful cherry blossom festival in the Japanese Friendship Garden in 2016. Some other annual events at the park include the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, the Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure", America's Finest City Half Marathon, and many more. 

Balboa Park is maintained and managed by the City of San Diego's Parks and Recreation Department. The park, along with its historic Exposition buildings were given the title of the National Historic Landmark District and a National Historic Landmark in 1977. It was also added to the National Register of Historic Places. 

Balboa Park is indeed a mega tourist attraction in San Diego. There is also an urban forest which is made of several different and even rare trees and groves.
